Comedian and screenwriter Jennifer Saunders was in Bath today to talk about her life and career at Bath's annual literature festival.
Ms Saunders released her biography, Bonkers: My Life in Laughs, last year and said she was delighted to be in Bath to talk about it as one of the key days in the Independent Bath Literature Festival's calendar.
The award-winning 55-year-old, known for her comedy partnership with Dawn French and Absolutely Fabulous, which she wrote and starred in, appeared on stage with Viv Groskop, artistic director of the festival, and spoke to an audience of more than 1,000.
She said: "I grew up a lot in Wiltshire so I know Bath quite well and I love coming here. It's lovely to come and have a bit of a chat with people."
Ms Saunders was planning to spend the day in Bath, meeting friends for lunch and visiting Walcot reclamation while she was in the city. "It's my favourite thing in the world," she said. "I like wandering around looking at old things."
Owen McNeir, development director for the festival, said: "It's great to have a name like Jennifer Saunders here with us. Viv has really thought about what people in Bath might like, she's given them comedy, some heavy-weight journalism and some pretty heavy-weight feminism, and history. She put a programme together that strikes a chord with everyone."
Over ten days the festival will feature more than 200 authors and performers, including Germaine Greer, Rowan Williams, Michael Rosen and Mock the Week's Jo Caulfield, talking to an audience of over 20,000 people in total.
The festival is running until next Sunday. For the full programme and to book online go to www.bathfestivals.org.uk or for the box office call 01225 463362.
