"We found a way to beat Blues," says Bath Rugby back-rower Leroy Houston

Leroy Houston admits Bath Rugby had to adapt their game plan to cope with the adverse weather conditions during their 24-13 LV= Cup win over Cardiff Blues on Saturday. The players warmed up on what seemed a mild afternoon at The Rec before the heavens opened just before kick-off. Lashing rain and a swirling wind hindered both sides' kicking game and Bath instead had to rely on powerful forward drives from the set-piece. That approach proved beneficial and three of their four tries came from close-range lineouts as Bath edged to a bonus-point victory. New Zealand-born Australian Houston was delighted Bath found a way to win. "The conditions were crazy. I haven't played in conditions like that before, it was like we had all four seasons in one hour," said number eight Houston. "It was quite hard in the first half with the wind swirling and we found it hard to get out of our half. But we adapted well and came away with the victory. "Sometimes kicking wasn't really an option. We adapted our attack quite well and I thought our defence was quite good. "I was pleased with the way the pack performed. We knew we had a chance to cause them some problems at the lineout with our mauling ability, so we're very happy with how it went."
