Anyone who struggles to get out of bed in the morning can turn their inaction into charity cash, thanks to the creative thinking of a teenager from Marshfield.
WakeOrDonate is a new mobile phone app that makes a donation to charity every time the snooze button is pressed on the phone's alarm.
The app is the brainchild of former Beechen Cliff pupil Ronan Finnegan.
The 19-year-old came up with the idea during his gap year between finishing his A-levels last summer and waiting to go to university this September. He has yet to choose a university but is hoping to study marketing.
Mr Finnegan said 14 per cent of staff who show up late for work had pressed the snooze button, costing the UK economy £9 billion a year.
According to YouGov 26.3 per cent of the population use an alarm clock on their mobile phone.
"It's a win, win situation. Every time someone presses their snooze button they get more time in bed and a charity will get a donation," he said.
"There isn't anything similar on the market at the moment – nothing has the positive consequences this will.
"People have obviously had the idea before but have not developed it, so people seem quite excited about what I am doing."
Mr Finnegan said the app was still being developed and has launched an appeal on the US crowdfunding website sellanapp.com.
The appeal has already raised more than $3,000 but pledges are still being accepted.
"There are still a few days left for people to get involved. Once it is correctly funded it can be developed and released properly."
Mr Finnegan said there were already several charities interested in the app.
