Popular clothing chain Next is set to move into bigger premises.
The high street name will this summer close its small two-storey shop on Stall Street in favour of new three-storey premises on SouthGate Street, which will offer women's, men's and children's clothing as well as home ware.
The new Next will fill the former Jessops and Topman stores. The Topman shop has remained empty since the city centre shop moved into a larger premises in Southgate Place when the new shopping area was launched back in 2010.
Planning applications have already been approved by Bath and North East Somerset Council to change the interior of the two shops. At the old Jessops store permission was sought to convert the second and third floors from office space into retail. Next door permission was granted to move a lift. A further application is expected for the shop front.
A spokesman for Next said: "I can confirm that Next are moving within Bath city centre. The new store will open in the summer of 2014 and will be just a short distance away from the current one. The store will consist of three stories offering all of Next's fashion departments and Next home being on the top floor.
"The store will be bigger and better than the current one and will offer more products. All the staff in the store will move across and some new jobs will be created. Unfortunately we do not have a figure on this."
The new Next store is due to open in July.
Elsewhere, Cornwall based clothing chain Seasalt looks to be moving into the former Warehouse store on New Bond Street.
A planning application has been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council for the company to make alterations to the shop but no one from the firm was available to speak to the Chronicle to confirm the opening.
Seasalt will be next door to the hotly anticipated Anthropologie store, which is taking over the former five-storey Habitat store on the corner of New Bond Street.
