The improved performance of students across Bath and north east Somerset was today praised by the Principal of City of Bath College.
Matt Atkinson said the "upward trend" was good news.
He said the results proved young people were doing well and fewer schools were failing.
Mr Atkinson said: "When exam results improve that means that the students are working harder and as a country it's good to have better exam results.
"It's really important for job prospects and a very good outcome for young people.
"The most important thing is the right attitude and maths and English skills."
Mr Atkinson: "We don't expect people to come to us as a total package, we expect them to leave us with the total package."
The improvement on last year's results could also see more parents moving into the catchment areas for the district's best-performing schools.
A leading estate agent in the city said parents would always prioritise the best schools and certain areas of Bath could see more families looking to set up home.
Carey Gilliland from Madison Oakley said while exam results were just one of the reasons families considered, a successful school would always prove attractive when moving home.
"House prices are dictated by supply and demand – these results may increase demand somewhat in particular areas of the city and (since no large building projects are currently ongoing), house prices in those areas may rise further," he said.
