Crews tackled "well-developed" fire at Argyle Street restaurant in Bath

A fire at a Bath restaurant is being treated as accidental. Avon Fire and Rescue has said it is not treating the fire at the Thai by the Weir restaurant on Argyle Street as suspicious. According to the fire service, crews found the fire well-developed in the six-storey building when they arrived at around 4pm this afternoon. A woman, thought to be in her 30s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for suspected smoke inhalation. A spokesman said: "Five fire engines were on scene at the height of the fire and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using two high pressure hose reels. "It's thought the fire started accidentally in extractor vent ducting." Smoke could be seen from around the city, and filled the restaurant. Avon Fire and Rescue said the fire was believed to have started in the restaurant's basement kitchen. A small crowd gathered outside the restaurant and people were moved along Great Pulteney Street, and later stopped from crossing Pulteney Bridge. Nearby hair salon Sacco Martin was forced to close and send clients to another salon because of the fire.
