Bath Rugby fly-half George Ford says dad Mike managed to stay silent over his selection to England's Six Nations squad, despite knowing about it 48 hours before. England head coach Stuart Lancaster visited his Bath Rugby counterpart at Farleigh House on Tuesday to inform him who had been selected. Among them was 20-year-old George, who was promoted to the senior squad for the first time, but Mike was sworn to secrecy - and managed to keep quiet until the official selection was confirmed yesterday. "I actually found out from Stuart," George told BBC's Points West. "The first person I rang was my mum, and she was pretty happy, then I spoke to my dad. He hadn't told me because Stuart wanted to. "He's my dad, and he was really happy for me, but he's also the coach here at Bath and he has to stick to what's being said. "I'm massively excited. It's obviously going to be a new environment and a new situation for me. Going into the unknown is always exciting. "I've not been involved with Test rugby yet and you don't know what to expect until you've experienced it, so it's going to be a massive learning curve for me but I feel like I'm in a good place. "I want to get my head down, train as hard as I can and get my hat in the ring for selection, that's all I can do. I'm not thinking too far ahead of that really. If you do, you're putting yourself in a dangerous situation." George believes his call-up vindicates his decision to leave Premiership champions Leicester Tigers in the summer and thanked his new team-mates for his impressive start at The Rec. "I obviously came here to get more game time, I was at that stage of my career where I needed to be playing every week," he said. "Thankfully I've been able to do that here. I've had 11 or 12 games on the run and I've really enjoyed it. I feel like I've learnt a lot already. "We've got a mindset at Bath of going out there and trying to score points, a really attacking game, and as a 10 it's great to have the forwards giving you that platform and exciting backs outside you to distribute to. "Every game, bar one or two, our forwards have dominated the opposition. They have been outstanding and, as a back line, we can't thank them enough. We try to repay them by scoring a few tries and managing the game."
