Wiltshire man given suspended prison sentence for historic sexual offences

A Wiltshire man has been given a suspended prison sentence for historic sexual offences. Peter Jones, 44, formally from Mountain Bower, in North Wraxall, has been sentenced in connection with four counts of sexual assault between 1998 and 2001. He was sentenced to two years for each offence when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, December 20. He avoided jail after the sentences were suspended for two years. His name will also be added to the sex offenders register for ten years. Detective Constable Niki Levitt, from Melksham CID, said: "Whilst we often refer to incidents like these as 'historic' they are very much in the here and now for many victims and always leave an everlasting mark. "Victims should not feel it's too late to report this type of crime. "We have specialist officers trained at dealing with these types of incidents and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim to contact us. "You can feel sure that we will act on and fully investigate any report received." Anyone who has fallen victim to this type of crime is encouraged to report it, if not to the police then direct to a trusted friend, teacher or GP. Alternatively people can contact the Swindon Assault Referral Centre (SARC) on their 24 hour helpline 0808 168 0024. This centre is available to support victims across Wiltshire.
