It's been dubbed Blue Monday, the most miserable day of the year.
For people in more conventional office or factory jobs, today was the dreaded day of return to work after the festive break.
And the jolt to the system may also trigger a search for new employment.
Past research has shown that January sees more working adults looking for a new job than at any other time, with money, stress, job satisfaction and career development being amongst the top reasons for seeking pastures new.
Some 46 per cent of people say that a bad day at work can impact negatively on their health and home life, and according to social media statistics analysed over the past three years, today will have seen the most negative tweets of the entire year as workers return to the daily grind.
Looking forward to retweeting some of your miserable Monday morning back to work tweets today. Give it your best shot people

In Bath, the situation seemed more positive, with several people in the city centre today saying they were pleased to return to work after a long break at home.
Sandra Gibson and her son Dave Gibson were unaware that today took the title of most depressing day of the year and instead remarked that they were both "very happy" and "looking forward to 2014".O
thers less content at being back in the office were comforting themselves with holidays booked for the upcoming months, including Brian James, who has the added excitement of his wedding in the summer.
Some had prepared for the January Blues in advance, such as James Whitney who was enjoying his lunch break after beginning a new job today, having started looking at the end of last year.
With many using the Christmas break as an opportunity to reflect on their current job situation, as well as the added pressure of keeping to New Year's resolutions, it is unsurprising that January sees a significant rise in job searches online. As a result of the increase in users it expects to see this month, Jobsite has devised a test which will result in clients receiving a free personal happiness report, aimed at helping those hit by the blues. The company Upbeat has even produced a Happiness Meter, reporting that the first Monday back repeatedly scores the lowest marks. Today is also the day which sees the most divorce proceedings begin, with the month of January as a whole the busiest, with twice as many couples filing for divorce than at any other time. Marital strains, fuelled by too much time spent together over the festive period, have made the first Monday of January the most adulterous day of the year. Dating website Illicit Encounters, targeted specifically at those seeking an affair, reported a 25 per cent rise in activity immediately after Christmas.
For an improved outlook, we will have to wait until February 14 and the first sunny weekend in April, which have been named among the happiest days of the year.
