Clean up begins at Bathampton Mill after flooding

Staff at a Bath pub have started the clean up operation after it was flooded on Christmas Eve. The Bathampton Mill was surrounded by several feet of water after the River Avon burst its banks. Up to four feet of water flooded into the building, filling the cellar and damaging equipment in the kitchens. Managers were forced to cancel all their bookings for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and staff who lived above the pub were evacuated. Area manager Paul Thomas said this was the worst flooding the pub had experienced, and thanked people in Bathampton for their support. He said: "We had to cancel all our bookings, but luckily managed to find other pubs and restaurants to accommodate people so they didn't lose out. "Today is the first day we have managed to get in, as the water has gone down. "The cleanup has begun, and everyone is really pulling together to help." Mr Thomas said he hoped the pub would be open in time for New Year. Last year the pub was closed for almost a week because of flooding from the River Avon.
