A lollipop man who has worked at a Bath primary school for 38 years has hung up his fluorescent jacket for the final time. Terry Cross first started at Newbridge Primary School as a caretaker, before switching roles to man the crossing a few years later. Last Friday was his final shift, and he was inundated with gifts and well wishes from local families. Deputy head teacher Gill Kennaugh said Mr Cross had been a good friend of Newbridge, regularly raising money for school funds. She said: "He is really highly thought of by the whole community. "He is always so cheery, singing with the children while he is on duty and giving out treats to dogs. "Today he came down laden with gifts, not just from the children from this school but also the children at Weston All Saints who also use the crossing." The school hosted a special farewell assembly for Mr Cross, which saw past heads and deputies coming back to say goodbye.
