Bargain hunters will have to wait a little longer this year for the highly anticipated Silcox Son and Wicks' winter sale.
For more than 60 years the family-run business on Kingsmead Square has delighted shoppers with its post-Christmas discounts and queues of people are often found sleeping out over night in order to grab a bargain.
This year's sale will open at 10am on Friday December 27 - an hour later than usual - but shoppers are not likely to be disappointed. Silcox Son and Wicks has already revealed some of the offers available in its post-Christmas sale including a solid oak dining table and six chairs – originally £1,578, reduced to £100, and a Edmundo three seater fabric sofa reduced from £899 to £99.
Despite many high street chains starting their sales before Christmas store manager Charlie Wicks said the firm was keen to stick with its tradition.
"I feel very strongly that Christmas is very much a time for people to spend money on their families and enjoy being together and that any money left over is used for getting the best out of the post-Christmas sales," he said.
"We have been holding our sales on the day after Boxing Day for more than 60 years now and that is something that will not change.
"But this year our doors will open at 10am to give our staff more time to get the extra floors ready after the Christmas shutdown."
Silcox Son and Wicks has been holding its famous sales since the 1950s.
Store owner Steve Wicks said the sale would continue into the New Year so shoppers did not have to worry about missing out.
"Our sales are well known for being genuine traditional sales where we sell off the old stock to make way for the new products and trends for 2014.
"We need lots of room for our new stock when it starts to arrive, which includes beds, sofas, tables and chairs.
"These sales have got bigger and bigger and, although they are hard work, all the team really enjoy them as there is always a great atmosphere in the store at sale time.
""The sale continues well in to the New Year as we have massive warehouse stock to clear, so if you miss the first day - don't panic."
