Councillors have delayed making a decision on a controversial housing development in Twerton until they have carried out a site visit.
Members of Bath and North East Somerset Council's development control committee met yesterday to discuss the application from social housing landlord Curo to build 21 new properties on land near King George's Road.
However, they decided they needed to go out to the site in the new year before they made a decision on the plans.
A number of local residents spoke at the meeting to register their concerns about the proposal, which they say will bring more traffic to the area and will see them lose communal land which is registered as allotment space.
Councillor June Player (Ind, Westmoreland) was at the meeting at called on councillors to go on a site visit.
She said: "Without first hand knowledge of this area it is difficult to assess how more vehicles will impact on this already very busy traffic and pedestrian location - not just for the nearby residents but also for the wider area.
"Because of this, I would like to ask that the committee please make a site visit so that they will be able to make a more informed decision about the impact extra traffic will cause.
"It will be much fairer for the community here and for all other pedestrian and traffic users of this area."
Curo says the city needs more affordable homes and the benefits of the scheme outweighs any negatives.
The plans have been recommended for approval by the B&NES planning officer.
