Buro Happold staff donate clothes to support Bath's homeless

Staff at a Bath firm have raided their cupboards to support homeless people in the city.

Employees from Buro Happold, at Lower Bristol Road, have donated unused items which will be turned into cash for Julian House.

The items will be sold at one of the Julian House charity shops, with proceeds helping the charity to fund its vital night shelter and projects.

Julian House has just launched its Christmas appeal, to raise money to help more people living on the streets.

The charity has a target of £100,000, which is just a third of what it needs to keep going every year.

Fundraising manager Cecil Weir said: "Ask almost any charity and they would say that their number one need is money, to help fund their work.

"Julian House is no exception.

"However, quite often support in kind can be of equal value.

"Our charity shops are playing an increasing role in helping to fund our frontline projects.

"However to maintain their vital contribution, we need constant supplies of stock – particularly good clean women's clothes, bric a brac, books, CDs and DVDs.

"Another item that the hostel requires all the time is tea and coffee – both of which are relatively expensive food items."

The Julian House shops are in Walcot Street, Moorland Road and Frome, and are manned by volunteers.

Mr Weir said: "We couldn't run the shops without enthusiastic volunteers.

"It helps us greatly but also for the volunteers it is very often is a great social experience."
