The parents of a teenage cyclist killed in a suspected hit and run in Bath have offered their support for a memorial bike ride this weekend, urging people to "fill the streets for him".
Toby and Sue Gilmore, whose 19-year-old son Jake died last weekend, have given their approval of a Respect Ride, which is due to take place on Saturday.
In a message on the group's Facebook page, the couple, along with Jake's brother Max, said that although they could not face attending the event they wished the organisers well.
They said: "Sue and I welcome the efforts you are all making on behalf of the memory of our son and brother, and we wish you well.
"Although we are lifelong cyclists, we have no wish to visit the place where he was killed and despite our support, our hearts are too heavy to attend.
"Jake was harmless, unobtrusive and sociable; please show your respect for him accordingly. Fill the streets for him but save noisy protests for another time.
"Thank you very much. Toby, Sue and Max Gilmore."
The ride has been organised for Saturday morning, with people meeting at Kingsmead Square at 10am, before making their way to Midland Bridge at around 10.20am.
They will then lay flowers and light candles, holding a one-minute silence in memory of Jake.
Police have been told about the event and will be keeping an eye on numbers, to see if the road needs to be closed at any time.
Jake, who was a barman at the Lamb and Lion pub in Lower Borough Walls, was knocked from his bike on Saturday, November 16.
He was discovered by a passer-by on Midland Bridge Road at around 9.30pm and was taken to hospital suffering from serious head injuries.
He died the next day.
Police put out an appeal for the driver involved and discovered an abandoned car at Royal Victoria Park.
A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
