Council isn't anti-car - but it is pro-health

How ironic that the Bath Chronicle should publish an article revealing "a quarter of children in Bath and North East Somerset are overweight or obese when they start school at the age of four" and UKIP attack the council for being anti-car.

There is a huge difference being anti-car and being pro-walking and pro-cyclist.

The government body directed at supporting healthcare professionals and others to make sure that the care they provide is of the best possible quality and offers the best value for money, NICE, has advocated increased walking and cycling to reduce obesity, reduce traffic congestion and reduce air pollution, the latter that has relevance to London Road in particular in Bath.

Climate change remains a big issue, something we can't ignore, with a lot of people wanting to cycle or walk for health reasons, but are not happy about the conditions that have to suffer when carrying out these activities.

It is the responsibility of the council to act.

Obesity is a big issue, as well as the Bath Chronicle article on school children there is much more evidence such as the increasing levels of diabetes, a disease that is linked to being overweight, all good reasons to encourage cycling and walking.

Everyone is a pedestrian, once a motorist has parked their car they will walk to their travel place, the council's responsibility is to make that as safe and enjoyable as possible. A lot of people like walking, a time to think, that should be a pleasant experience.

The council isn't anti-car, it is anti-obesity, anti-air pollution easier put as pro-health.
