City environmental officials are increasing their efforts in the fight against dog fouling.
New signs have been put up at Linear Park in Oldfield Park warning dog owners of the penalties if they are caught not cleaning up after their pets. The signs also encourage other park users to be vigilant and report anyone they see not clearing up a dog's mess.
The action comes after councillors in the area were contacted by residents fed up at the park being spoilt by inconsiderate dog owners.
Councillor Will Sandry (Lib Dem, Oldfield) said: "Linear Park has been under quite a lot of pressure since the Two Tunnels opened. It's fantastic but it's a lot more used than it used to be because it's more accessible, which is great.
"We do have some problems with irresponsible dog owners in certain areas. We have put notices up just to remind dog walkers to clear up after their dogs. They also let the public know how to report issues."
A spokesman for the council added: "Dogs mess if touched causes diseases, like toxocariasis, which can lead to blindness and in some cases death if not treated. If the council receives a report of dog fouling, we will investigate and step up patrols in an area if necessary, imposing an on-the-spot fine if a dog owner is caught.
"There is no excuse – dog bins are installed in most parks and open spaces. People can dispose of their bag in regular litter bins too."
Anyone who spots a dog walker not clearing up after their dog should take a description of the person, the dog and location and report it to Council Connect via coun cilconnect@bathnes.gov.uk or calling 01225 39 40 41.
