Leighton House provided sanctuary

Leighton House was something of a sanctuary for Geoff in the 1970s.

Geoff, 86, worked for the MoD for many years, in a career which took him and Daphne to most corners of the world.

One of his strongest memories is of a stint with the Navy in Iran.

It was in the years of the Iranian Revolution, and the incoming regime did not take too kindly to Westerners.

"I was literally forced out of the country at gunpoint," recalled Geoff.

"It was very scary. In the end I made it back to the sanctuary of Leighton House. That, without a doubt, was the happiest I have ever been to arrive home."

The pair, who now live at Hilperton in Wiltshire, have lived and worked in Gibraltar, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, but Bath will always hold fond memories.

Geoff said: "We have led amazingly full lives and seen many places, and we have enjoyed them all. But Bath – and Leighton House – will always be special to us."
