A Paralympic gold medalist who trains in Bath is supporting a cancer charity after she lost her mum to the disease.

Liz Johnson, 27, is encouraging people to hold a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday, September 27.

She was inspired to support the charity after losing her mum Bonnie, 52, to cervical cancer in 2008.

Liz lives in Newport and trains at the University of Bath.

She won a gold medal for the 100-metre breaststroke at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, 11 days after Bonnie died.

And she won a bronze last year.

She said: "I'm supporting World's Biggest Coffee Morning as Macmillan was able to help my family at a time when we needed them most."

To sign up to host a coffee morning, call 0300 1000 200 or visit www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee.
