Healthy walks you can really Trust

In September the National Trust's Dyrham Park near Bath is hosting a variety of walks for The Great British Walk.

The Great British Walk runs from September 1 until November 3, and to kick start the National Trust's walking festival, there will be a range of free walks at Dyrham to enable visitors to get outdoors and closer to nature, whilst also learning more about the park, its wildlife and its history.

A water garden discovery walk on Tuesday September 3, 2pm to 3pm will offer visitors the chance to learn about the lost grand formal water garden that was created by William Blathwayt in the early 18th century. Alternatively the Dyrham walk on Thursday, September 5, Tuesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 19, from 2pm to 3pm, will give a great insight into the natural springs on site, and allow visitors to explore areas normally off limits, including Pond Wood and the cellars. There's another opportunity to discover a hidden part of Dyrham, the original former terraces behind the gardens, with the Remains of the glorious past walk, 3pm to 4pm, on Saturday, September 14, which is also Heritage Open Day.

There will also a walk venturing out of the grounds at Dyrham on Monday, September 23, 2pm to 3.30pm. This will be a chance to explore the village of Dyrham and its history in relation to the old estate, a great walk for anybody interested in local history or those who would like to learn more about Dyrham's past.

The team at Dyrham have worked closely with the Avon Bat Group to put on three bat evening walks on Wednesday, September 11, 18 and 25, from 7pm to 10pm. Visitors will be guided around the park and garden in search of bats that live onsite and nearby. Booking for this walk is essential, please call 0117 9371333.

For dog lovers, there will be a ranger led walk on Saturday, September 28, 10.30am to 12.30pm, going off site and exploring the countryside around Dyrham. Booking for this walk is essential, please call 0117 9371 333.

In addition to the walks, the final Love Food Festival of the year is on Sunday, September 29 in the car park with an assortment of local produce for visitors to try and buy.

There will also be the opportunity to learn how to grow and cook food using various methods, and have a go at activities including hands-on experience, tasting, art, movement and storytelling. Free entry to festival based in car park.
