10 things to do in and around Bath this weekend and the coming week

At a loose end during the week ahead? Here's our at-a-glance guide to ten things to do in Bath during the coming week:

Sgt. Pepper's Only Dart Board Band have been one of the top Beatles tribute bands in the UK for 18 years. "John", "Paul" and "George" from the band will be making a rare appearance as an acoustic style trio in a one off gig at The Assembly Inn, Bath, tomorrow at 9pm. Early arrival recommended.

There will be a screening of The Act of Killing at Bath's Little Theatre on Tuesday at 6pm. Innovatively twisting the documentary genre, this film reveals the shocking history of genocide in Indonesia.

Every Wednesday over the school holiday's, National Trust staff at Prior Park Landscape Garden will be on hand to get children involved in a different activity each week from the '50 things to do before you're 11¾' scrapbook. Activities will take place every Wednesday between 11am and 1pm.

Step back in time with the spellbinding Carters Steam Fair at Victoria Park in Bath over the weekend. From tomorrow to Sunday, the fair have vintage white knuckle rides. Visit www.carterssteamfair.co.uk.

The American Museum in Britain will host Francesc Albardaner Llorens as he presents a lecture entitled John Cabot and Christopher Columbus, Revisited tonight at 6pm. In this lecture several important facts related with Cabot and Columbus, based on new historical documents found in several historical archives of Spain during the last 14 years, will be revealed.

Pick up a bargain at the Green Street Market on Sunday. These markets, which run until October, form part of the Great Bath Feast celebrations and the market will include 10 stalls selling a variety of high quality goods and products.

Do see the extraordinary production of Shakespeare's King Lear at the Theatre Royal Bath. Starring David Haig in the title role, this new staging of the Bard's powerful tragedy sees the drama unfold in 1960s East London. It runs until Saturday, August 10.

If you are looking to discover the story behind the elegant architecture of Bath then the Building of Bath Collection is the place to visit. Located at the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel, the Building of Bath Collection is a unique museum that explores the creation of the city and the craftsman who transformed a provincial town into a world famous Georgian Spa. It is open daily (except Mondays).

If your Saturday ritual involves wandering into town for a freshly brewed coffee in the courtyard at Carluccio's, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find some extra treats in store. Milsom Place in Bath offers a new weekly artisan food market showcasing local produce every Saturday.
