Cleveland Bridge fire station open day satisfies visitors' burning curiosity

Around 1,000 people found out more about the fire service at an open day in Bath.

Avon Fire and Rescue staged an open day at its fire station at Cleveland Bridge on Sunday.

The four-hour event featured static displays of all the city's fire appliances.

These included the turntable ladder and also the rescue boat.

In addition to all this, there for the first time was a new rescue pump.

There was full access to all the vehicles for all.

Station manager Martin Glanvill said: "It was great to see the children in their fire helmets, newly purchased from the Fire Fighters Charity stand, enjoying themselves."

Demonstrations of the dangers of putting water on to burning oil were also given at the open day.
