Parents with younger children often have to find a number of fun activities that won't break the bank. That isn't that simple when you've got a few weeks to plan for but when we have a spot of good weather it certainly gives us more options.
Assuming everyone is old enough to ride a bike, why not organise a family bike ride along your local cycle route. In Bath the opening of Two Tunnels Greenway, a new walking and cycling path, has provided families with a whole new route to explore which includes two brand new bridges and two enormous tunnels.
Meanwhile, rides along the river or through the nearby woodland areas offer some gorgeous scenery and intriguing places to stop off for a bite to eat. A bike ride or indeed a walk will certainly use up any pent up energy and it's a completely free activity, just be sure to bring the sun screen if it's a sunny day.
If you bring a long a pocket book of British wildlife to identify any birds or animals along the way, then the kids will have something to focus on and won't get bored. Equally, a camera can extend the life of any outdoor activity as you try to get the perfect snap of a flock of birds, a creepy crawly or a beautiful view.
What's more, when you arrive home the kids can make a collage of their day using their photos.
Another great family day out is a trip to your local museum; the children can get completely engaged in the day and you may even learn something new yourself. Most organisations offer reduced prices for families so forget about the cost and immerse yourself in the day.
Alternatively if you fancy learning a little more about the beautiful area we live in, there are numerous tours available which are both informative and fun. In Bath you can enjoy a relaxing boat tour on a warm summer's evening, rest your feet and explore the city from a double decker bus or head out on one of the many guided walking tours.
