Bath primary schoolchildren are preparing to launch the country's first Bike Band.

The healthy living initiative will feature 60 Year 5 pupils from Oldfield Park Juniors singing with bells and drums on their bikes.

The children will be cycling through the Two Tunnels to Midford and back tomorrow singing two specially written songs.

They will all be wearing bright orange T-shirts, caps and bands and will meet up with the rest of the school at Bloomfield Space for a picnic celebration.

Head teacher Marilyn Cole said: "We have been connected with The Two Tunnels Project since 2010 when Year 3 went behind the fencing to see the tunnels filled with clay.

"I am delighted that three years later Year 5 will be cycling through the tunnels, en masse whilst playing instruments and singing.

"It will be a wonderful community event."

The idea for the Bike Band came from cycling instructor Paul Lowe, who helped the children complete their Bikeability training.

The bike ride will be led by Bath and North East Somerset Council's cycling development officer Jim Imeson and is designed to coincide with National Bike to School Week.
