Newport Gwent Dragons join race to sign Bath Rugby target Gavin Henson

Newport Gwent Dragons are believed to have joined Bath Rugby in the race to sign Gavin Henson. The Wales international was thought to be on the verge of signing a two-year deal at The Rec but a report at Wales Online today says that incoming Dragons boss Lyn Jones is keen to lure Henson back to his homeland. Henson, 31, has won 33 caps for his country and once for the British & Irish Lions. He took 21 months out of the game in 2010 and has been beset by injury and off-the-field issues since. Jones knows the controversial back better than most, having worked with him for five years at Ospreys before the pair were reunited at London Welsh last season. The ex-Wales flanker – set to be unveiled as Dragons' director of rugby shortly - said last term: "Gavin is these days a more confident individual than I have seen. Everybody knows how much talent Gavin possesses. "He's a class act. He knows how to control a game, has vision, skill and a prodigious boot." Bath, who are keen for an experienced figure to join George Ford and Tom Heathcote in the fly-half department, have been paired with the Dragons in the group stages of next season's Amlin Cup.
