Olympic medallists and sports stars to join Bike Bath festival

A number of former Olympic medallists and sports stars will be taking part in a festival of cycling in Bath.

Sprinter Jason Gardener, modern pentathlete Heather Fell and skeleton bob hopeful Ed Smith are all joining in rides at the Bike Bath weekend next month.

More than 1,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the organised rides on June 22 and 23.

On the Saturday, the rides will pass along the newly opened Two Tunnels route between Bath and Midford.

Organiser Richard Best said: "I'm really grateful to the support we've received and owe everyone a big thank you. Whether it's using facilities for feed stations, supplying volunteers to man them or providing food for the cyclists, it has been a great demonstration of working together to create something which we hope will grow in the years ahead."

Registration is now open through the Bike Bath website for rides of 20, 30, 60 and 100 miles with £1 from every entry going to environmental charity Sustrans.

In addition riders are also encouraged to ride and raise money for one of more than 40 charities supporting the event.

You can register for the event by logging on to the website at www.bikebath.co.uk or contact the team via Facebook, Twitter or, alternatively, by e-mailing info@bikebath.co.uk.
