The future of Culverhay Sports Centre remains in the balance as the school in whose grounds it sits says it cannot afford to run it in future.
The Bath Community Academy has been trying to find a solution that allows the sports centre to stay open, but says it will have to close to the public on July 1.
Local councillors say they have not given up hope that the centre at Rush Hill can be kept open.
The new academy inherited the sports centre when it replaced Culverhay School last September. At the moment the centre is run by leisure operator Aquaterra through a contract with Bath and North East Somerset Council, but this comes to an end on June 30.
In a statement, the academy said it and its parent body, the Cabot Learning Federation, had "worked hard to find a solution that enables these facilities to remain open to the public."
But it said: "The funding that the CLF and Bath Community Academy receives from central government is intended for the sole purpose of educating the students who attend the academy and we are not in a position where we can allocate this source of revenue to the maintenance of a sports centre provision. The CLF and the academy will continue to work with B&NES to pursue opportunities to appoint an external operator to provide this service in the future if it can be demonstrated to be financially viable, however as we are not able to facilitate an interim arrangement this will mean the facilities, whilst remaining open to the academy for student use during the day, will be closed to the public from July 1."
The sports centre is used by the school during the week but by the community during evenings and at weekends.
