Team Bath Netball look to seal top spot and home semi-final

Team Bath Netball go into tomorrow's Superleague Showdown League concluder at Surrey Storm knowing they just need to avoid a heavy defeat to secure a home semi-final. The four-times champions are currently top of the table on goal average from Celtic Dragons, who were 64-46 winners against Hertfordshire Mavericks on Wednesday. Storm can also join Team Bath and Dragons on 12 points with victory in tomorrow night's game at Surrey Sports Park (8pm). But while Team Bath could be knocked off top spot, they would have to lose by a unlikely margin to drop below Dragons and into third place. Jess Thirlby's players will be keen to finish top of the table, which will earn them a home game against the winner of the fourth and fifth-placed play-off on Sunday, May 19. The runners-up will host the third-placed team in the other semi-final on Saturday, May 18. Both matches will start at 7.30pm. Jess Thirlby's team boosted their chances of claiming that all-important top-two berth with a 60-39 win at Mavericks nine days ago – a big improvement on their previous match, a 66-58 defeat to Dragons. "We made far too many unforced errors against Dragons but we showed a lot of spirit against Mavericks and made a really good start to the game," said Thirlby. "We were a lot more clinical, with some really creative attacking play. Defensively we were winning the ball early and we were able to capitalise on that. "We're still making too many passing errors, though, and we need to eliminate them in the final games. Everyone in the top four has been struggling with consistency and we need to be a bit more ruthless."
