Police watchdog begins probe into shooting of man in Keynsham

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has begun an investigation into the shooting of a man by armed officers in Keynsham. The 47-year-old man, who was in a wheelchair, has been arrested in connection with an incident in which police were threatened with a firearm in Minsmere Road. The man was shot in the leg in the drama on Tuesday evening, and is still being treated at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. An emergency call had been made to the police by a woman at about 6.10pm, and an armed response unit sent to the street. IPCC commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said: "This was a very serious incident and will be investigated thoroughly. IPCC investigators are in the process of interviewing significant witnesses and have secured the firearms from both the police and the man and these will be forensically examined. "We expect to be able to release more detailed information after we have independently verified it."
