Elderly people who may have been targeted by a cold-calling carpet company are being urged to contact trading standards.
In last week's Chronicle we featured the story of 72-year-old Ann Webster who had been left £524 out of pocket after agreeing to what she was led to believe would be a £20 carpet cleaning job.
Now, another vulnerable Bath pensioner has come forward after also paying over the odds for a service by Southern Counties Cleaning Group, based in Bournemouth.
Ginny Chalmers' 79-year-old mother lives alone in the city.
She paid £831.60 to have the carpets in her small one-bedroom flat cleaned.
Ms Chalmers has now reported the incident to Bath and North East Somerset Council's trading standards department.
And they have launched an investigation.
And she is calling for any other Southern Counties customers to come forward.
"I have now taken her cards away from her and am giving her cash instead," she said. "Which just takes away more of her independence."
Mrs Webster's son Phil has now secured a full refund, after his mother's bank reversed the payment, as well as an apology from the firm.
Anyone who would like to report an incident should contact B&NES trading standards on 01225 396753.
