Michael Jamieson was last night named Sports Personality of the Year when the University of Bath hosted its annual Blues Awards last night.
Students, graduates and athletes associated with the university gathered at the Assembly Rooms to receive honours for sporting achievement.
The evening saw a number of individual athletes and volunteers recognised with Full, Half and Honorary Blues, as well as colours.
Most of those given awards were for sporting performance, demonstrating not only high performance but commitment to student teams over their time at the university.
Swimmer Jamieson was nominated for the personality prize – the last handed out on the night – alongside fellow London 2012 silver medallist, modern pentathlete Samantha Murray, Team Bath netballer Mia Ritchie and basketball captain Tom Janicot.
The award is given to a student who truly encapsulates the spirit of university sport.
A number of special awards were also presented, with every athlete with university links to compete at last summer's Olympics picking up a London 2012 Honorary Blue.
Steven Wilkins won the Gethin Bevan Award for being Club Member of the Year, while swimming supremo David McNulty received the Ivor Powell Award for Excellence in Coaching for heading up the successful Bath Intensive Training Centre.
Archery was named Club of the Year, while the top team accolade went to the women's tennis 1sts.
Students' Union sport officer Jon Gleave said: "The Blues are always the highlight of the student sporting calendar, an opportunity for us to recognise the sporting achievement of students, clubs and volunteers who are at the heart of sport in Bath.
"It was a great evening and one in which Bath as a city can be proud of the people who live here."
