Five-star Corsham Town beat Devizes Town to boost Toolstation Division 1 promotion bid

Fourth-placed Corsham Town gave their Toolstation Division 1 promotion hopes a boost with a 5-1 victory at home to struggling Devizes Town. After beating leaders Hengrove Athletic 3-0 in midweek, Corsham were quickly out of the blocks and Dan King gave them an early lead when he beat the visitors' offside trap. Jamie Moss poked home to make it 2-0 at the interval after Ben Moore saw a header from King's free-kick kept out by Town keeper Martin Mitchell. Devizes got a goal back ten minutes into the second half when Gio Wrona brilliantly curled home a free-kick. But three goals in seven minutes from the hosts put the game to bed, with a strike from Ross Lye sandwiched between Nick Holton's brace as Corsham eased to a ninth straight win. Bradford Town, who sit one place above in third, saw their own bid for a place in the top flight suffer a setback when they were handed a 1-0 defeat at home by a Shrewton United side who started the day bottom of the table. Calne Town were put to the sword by Hengrove as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at the league leaders. The visitors more than matched their pace-setting hosts in the first half and went close to breaking the deadlock when Tyler Sheppard crashed a shot against the bar. Hengrove showed their class in the second period, however, and goals from Ricky Charlton and Danny Barwood put them ahead. Any hopes Calne had of a fightback were ended seven minutes from time when Ben Bament scored from the spot after being fouled in the box, and the visitors' misery was complete in stoppage time when goalkeeper Steve Allison was sent off.
