Bath Canoe Club is hoping to be at the forefront of a scheme to find the next generation of stars keen to follow in the paddle strokes of London 2012 hero Ed McKeever.
The Bradford on Avon kayak king raced to K1 200m gold at the Olympics and Canoe England are now keen to build on both that sprint success and the slalom triumph of Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott.
The national organisation is looking to set up regional development academies and Bath Canoe Club have expressed an interest in being a feeder club for the South West region.
They have progressed to the second round of consideration and are waiting to discover whether they will gain competition coach status, plus an additional funding boost.
