Work to tackle hold-ups on London Road outside the Morrisons supermarket has now been completed.
The improvements at the junction are part of Bath and North East Somerset Council's £27 million Bath Transportation Package.
The crossing points at the busy spot have been consolidated into one, with new signals, and better traffic island layouts.
The controls for pedestrians and cyclists are now better synchronised, increasing the time people which people have to cross.
Council cabinet member for transport Councillor Roger Symonds (Lib Dem, Combe Down) said: "The council is already seeing a positive effect on traffic flows as a result of this upgrade. By changing the signal phasing and the layout of the traffic islands, we can get a greater number of vehicles through the junction while still giving pedestrians time to cross safely."
Mr Symonds said he was "very pleased" with the overall progress of the package, which has seen park and ride sites at Lansdown and Odd Down expanded.
"The measures, such as park and ride expansion, are a crucial part of improving our transport system to support economic growth."
The project has finished on time with contractors working early mornings and late evenings.
The council said: "Residents and motorists are thanked for their patience during the engineering works."
Extra work is now being carried out to the pavement along London Road to Hanover Street which will link up with the new paving installed at the junction.
