A man accused of biting off part of the ear of ex-Casualty star Clive Mantle has appeared in court.
The 55-year-old star, who lives in Box, near Bath, was bitten in a Newcastle hotel last month.
Philip McGilvray, 32, from Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates Court accused of attacking Mr Mantle.
McGilvray faced a charge of with wounding with intent and was given condition bail.
Mr Mantle, who played surgeon Mike Barrett in the then Bristol-filmed Casualty, lives at picturesque Box and had been appearing in The Ladykillers at The Theatre Royal in Newcastle.
McGilvray will appear before Newcastle Crown Court on April 26.
