A woman who was pulled from the River Avon in Bath last night is in a critical condition in hospital.
The patient, who is understood to be in her 70s, was taken to the Royal United Hospital after being found in the water at around 6pm.
North Parade Bridge was closed by police for around half an hour while they dealt with the incident.
A member of the public called 999 to say they had spotted an elderly woman in the water.
Police officers who were first on the scene managed to reach her from a pontoon and pulled her to safety.
They performed CPR and she was taken to the RUH by ambulance, where her condition this morning was described as critical.
