Bristol-bound Ben Skirving eyeing happy ending at Bath Rugby

Departing Bath Rugby back-row Ben Skirving is relishing the prospect of a packed West County programme in future Aviva Premiership seasons. The 29-year-old will end a four-year stay at The Rec this summer to join Bristol, who are in contention for a Championship play-off place. A return to the top flight for the first time since 2009 would see Bristol join Bath, Gloucester and Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership – something that has already whetted Skirving's appetite prior to his Memorial Stadium switch. "I'm really excited about getting down to Bristol and getting involved there," said Skirving, capped once by England in 2007. "They are pushing themselves forward and it's going to be a good challenge. With the players and coaches they are bringing on board, it shows their intention as a club. "They are pushing forward and want to be back in the Premiership, so hopefully I can play my part in that. "It would be a bit of a South West fest but will be great for rugby in the area to have that many Premiership clubs." Skirving has been a stalwart of the Bath side since arriving from Saracens in 2009 and brought up his 100th appearance for the club when he came off the bench in last weekend's 40-25 Premiership win over London Welsh. "It's a difficult situation because I am totally focussed on Bath at the moment and hopefully we can finish on a high," said Skirving ahead of today's Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final against Stade Francais. "It would be really nice to get some silverware and finish well. I've really enjoyed my time here and to play 100 games in four years is something I am quite pleased with. "Someone mentioned it to me and my dad knew as well – I think he keeps an eye on it – but it is always good to reach that sort of milestone."
