10 things to do in and around Bath this weekend and the coming week

At a loose end during the week ahead? Here's our at-a-glance guide to ten things to do in Bath during the coming week: On Monday there are the semi finals for the annual competition for the post of Bard of Bath. The competition with the theme The Waters of our Land for poems, stories or songs takes place at St James Wine Vaults, off Julian Road, Bath. Semi-finals also held on May 11. On Tuesday there is a book launch at St Swithin's Church, Bath at which Paula Byrne brings Jane Austen into the 21st century. On Sunday there is the first of a new "first Sunday of the month" antiques and vintage fairs at Green Park Market, Bath. It runs from 9.30am to 4pm. On Saturday you can hear the Kaposvar Hungarian choir in concert at 7.30pm at St Michael's Without, Broad Street, Bath. On Tuesday there is a lunchtime recital with Poeticall Musicke at 1.10pm at the Holburne Museum, Bath. Tickets cost £5. Next Thursday there is another of popular lunch hour concerts at the Manvers Street Baptist Church in Bath. The musicians are Philip Evry (piano) and Tim Robb (viola) playing Schumann, Eccles, Massenet and Wieniawski. It's at 12.30pm and it is in aid of the Dorothy House. Make a date with one of the events at the Bath Comedy Festival. You could try Sunday Lunch at Woods with Bill Smarme or join Mitch Benn who is in Reduced Circumstances at the Rondo Theatre next Thursday. You have until Saturday to see the Old Vic production of Noises Off at the Theatre Royal Bath before it sets off on its nationwide tour. You will regret it is you don't see it. Take the children for an end of Easter holidays treat to one or more of the city's many museums. The Bath Centre National Trust lecture will take place on Tuesday at 2.30pm. The lecture will be held on the ground floor of the Salvation Army Citadel, Green Park Road in Bath and the talk entitled is Stourhead Landscape Garden which will be given by Emily Utgren gardener and arborist at the garden.
