Woman rescued from River Avon in Bath

A woman has been plucked from the River Avon in Bath by fire crews. Fire teams were called after the woman was spotted in the river by the Sainsbury's store at Green Park this afternoon. Firefighters specially trained in water rescue techniques were able to easily reach the woman, understood to be in her 50s, who was clinging to the river bank. But the steepness of the bank meant they decided not to try to get her onto dry land. Instead, she was put on an inflatable raft and carried downriver to a more accessible spot. She was then helped shore and treated by paramedics as a precaution. Avon Fire and Rescue say she is not believed to have suffered any injuries in the incident.
