A solid team performance ensured Avonvale RFC under-13s ended their losing run with a well-deserved 15-7 home success against a battling Old Reds side.
For once, Vale were firing on all cylinders from the off but were thwarted by resolute defending until inside centre Toby B finally broke through after some good passing along the back line.
A 5-0 half-time lead was increased when full-back Will, not for the first time, collected a clearing kick and started a move which saw the ball quickly moved across the Vale back line.
Good rucking enabled possession to be retained and excellent work from Joe and the other forwards resulted in number eight Harry touching down from an unstoppable maul.
More great work from the pack saw Ollie C crash over for Vale's third try soon after but Old Reds were not out of the game and managed to slip a couple of tackles to score a converted touchdown.
For Vale it was pleasing to see the forwards supporting each other and the back line moving the ball well.
