Hundreds of fans gathered at The Forum in Bath last night to listen to one of the world's most famous authors Harry Potter creator JK Rowling. The famously private writer was in the city as part of The Independent Bath Literature Festival and was interviewed on stage by close friend and festival director James Runcie. She spoke openly and candidly about her work, including both the Potter series and her most recent novel The Casual Vacancy. She also revealed that she is now working on her next project, a children's book, although she would not divulge any details about it or when it is likely to be released. Members of the 1,600-strong audience were then invited to ask their own questions, which varied from general ones about her writing process and any tips she had for aspiring authors right through to detailed ones about specific characters and storylines. At the end of the hour-long event Rowling completed a mammoth book-signing session, where everyone was given the opportunity to meet her on stage and have their copy of The Casual Vacancy signed. Last night's event was one of the highlights of the ten-day festival, which has seen a whole host of famous names visit the city, including Pat Barker, P.D. James and Kate Mosse. Tonight will see another of the headline names, double Booker Prize winner Hilary Mantel, take to the stage. The Wolf Hall author will be at The Forum this evening from 8pm in one of only two public appearances in 2013. She will also be interviewed by Mr Runcie, ahead of the final day of the festival tomorrow. For more information go to www.bathfestivals.org.uk/literature.
