Patients at the Royal United Hospital are having their medicines delivered to them at home as part of a new service.
The Homecare Delivery Service sees certain patients receiving medicines at home rather than having to collect them from hospital.
Patients are assessed by their consultant, who will decide if they are suitable for the service.
A pharmacist checks the prescription to make sure it is suitable before it is sent out, and a pharmaceutical supplier sends the medicine, which is signed for on delivery by the patient.
Patients are told how to take the medicines, monitored in clinics, and have contact numbers to ring if they have any problems.
At the moment 18 oncology patients on the treatment lenalidomide are taking part in the scheme as a pilot study.
The service is part of a national initiative by the Department of Health, which has asked hospital trusts to look at how they can provide patient care much closer to home.
The hope is that the scheme, which will save the hospital money and reduce patient visits, can be extended to more people.
