Larkhall Athletic lose to last kick as ten-man Tunbridge Wells end FA Vase dream

Larkhall Athletic's Wembley dream is over for another year after they suffered a cruel late defeat to ten-man Tunbridge Wells in a topsy-turvy FA Vase fifth-round clash at Plain Ham. Jack Harris netted a 120th-minute winner as the visitors - who had Andy McMath sent off during extra-time - snatched a 4-3 victory and set up a quarter-final meeting against Hadleigh United. Toolstation League Premier Division side Larkhall gave a bumper crowd of 280 plenty to cheer in the 12th minute when Simon Gilbert netted from the penalty spot. Josh Stanford and McMath turned the game on its head before half-time but Gilbert again kept his composure from the spot to make it 2-2 seven minutes after the break. Larkhall then took the lead once more but it was short-lived as Andy Irvine equalised ten minutes from time to force an additional half-hour. The hosts were the better team during extra-time and had a 30-yard volley disallowed before McMath saw red three minutes from time. But Larkhall could not cash in and Harris punished them by bagging a Tonbridge winner with virtually the last kick of the game. Larkhall will look to put this disappointment behind them by reaching the Somerset Premier Cup semi-finals when they travel to higher-league Paulton Rovers on Tuesday.
