Bath's Bachfest opens with five fabulous concerts

Bath's new Bachfest, a five-concert, three-day February treat, draws to a close with a Venetian extravaganza in Bath Abbey on Saturday at 7.30pm.

There is no Bach in sight on this occasion, although that is remedied by two all-Bach concerts tomorrow evening and Saturday morning, but a glorious homage to two of the great Baroque masters and the city of their birth, follow Venetians Tomaso Albinoni and Antonio Vivaldi.

The concert will be given by the outstanding virtuoso Baroque orchestra, La Serenissima, which is named after the Most Serene Republic of Venice.

Their concert in the abbey will offer a virtual tour of early 18th century Venice.

Soloists are trumpeter, Simon Munday, and the soprano, Mhairi Lawson, who is now a firm favourite with Bath audiences as well as critics, and will also appear in the Bachfest's performance of Handel's Acis and Galatea at St Mary Bathwick tongight at 7.30pm.

For further information on all Bath Bachfest concerts visit www.bathbachfest.org.uk, tickets £10 to £32 from 01225 463362.
