Andy Pozzi showed he had put the hamstring injury which forced him to pull up during the Olympics firmly behind him by clocking a championship-best time at the Birmingham Indoor Games. His time of 7.58secs in the 60m hurdles heats was just outside his personal best but well inside the European indoor qualification standard of 7.65 and puts him top of the UK rankings for 2013. Pozzi, who trains with Malcolm Arnold at the University of Bath, went slower in the final but still came out on top in 7.91. Elidih Child won the women's 400m in an indoor PB of 52.71, comfortably beating the European standard of 53.25, to go second in the UK rankings. However, training partner Jack Green did not finish his 400m heat after dislocating his shoulder – a similar injury to one he suffered before Christmas. He is confident of being fit for this weekend's European Trials & UK Indoor Championships at Sheffield. A week after being named as Running Bath athlete of the year, Marshfield's Loren Bleaken leapt to the top of the UK under-20 women's 400m rankings after breaking 55 seconds for the first time. The 17-year-old from Marshfield won her race at Birmingham in 54.87, easily eclipsing her previous best of 55.43 set outdoors last summer. "I am so pleased with that, especially as I did not feel at my best during the race and my legs were very heavy," said the Team Bath athlete. "I wasn't well in the week, which is why I decided to miss the Wiltshire Schools' Cross Country Championships, but my coach [Adrian Clover] said tackling a 400m with another day's rest wouldn't be as hard. "It proved a good decision and if I can go that quick not feeling good there is clearly more to come. "I have been invited to run the 800m at the UK Championships and that will be a great experience for me to race against our top seniors." Also in Birmingham, Team Bath's Jake Burkey was third in the under-15 boys' long jump with a 4.69m clearance and also clocked 8.81 and 28.43 in the 60m and 200m respectively. Eliot Green was fourth in the under-20 men's 800m in 2mins 1.48 and Toby Pentreth was second in the under-17s' 200m in 24.10, as well as clearing 6.28m to finish runner-up in the long jump. Kelly Hutchins was seventh in the under-17 women's 60m in 10.20.
