A bride-to-be has been arrested just minutes before she was due to get married in Bath today.
Police have confirmed that they arrested a 35-year-old woman in Weston this afternoon.
The woman, who is thought to be from Malawi, had been due to get married at All Saints Church.
A police spokesman said: "The reason (for the arrest) is to investigate her status in this country. We believe she may have entered illegally."
He added: "It does appear it was directly before her wedding."
Olivia Whitworth, wife of the church's rector the Rev Patrick Whitworth, said: "People are very upset and quite shocked by what has happened."
The woman remained in custody at Bath police station in Manvers Street this afternoon. Her family do not wish to comment at the moment.
