An 89-year-old from Bath who fought off a pair of robbers with his walking stick is the latest person to be nominated for a Pride in Bath award.
Second World War veteran Gordon King, from Weston, had been walking along Moorland Road in February last year when he saw two men attack a security van outside the Lloyds TSB branch.
Without a thought for his safety, he attacked them with his stick, which was broken in the incident, and he suffered a bump to the head when one of the men pushed him over.
Unfortunately thousands of pounds were still taken, but Mr King was praised for his actions by police officers.
His bravery has led to him being nominated in the Heroic Act of the Year category in the Pride in Bath awards.
The awards are a collaboration between The Bath Chronicle and BMI Bath Clinic at Claverton Down.
They give people the chance to nominate those who have made a difference in their community, or who have shown great bravery, compassion or commitment.
There are eight categories: Carer, Community Champion, Heroic Act, Charity Fundraiser or Volunteer, Young Person, Environmental Hero, Public Sector Hero, and GP Practice.
An anonymous nomination for Mr King said: "Gordon bravely attacked the robbers in an attempt to stop them.
"He was not afraid to step in when he saw people doing wrong, and was even injured in his efforts."
From caring for a relative, to supporting a charity or litter picking, there are many people in the community who perform selfless service.
