Another round of snow is forecast in Bath today, with the Met Office predicting a flurry from around 3pm. Yellow weather warnings of snow and ice are in place today through to midnight, with icy stretches predicted on untreated surfaces. Light snowfall is forecast in Bath from around 3pm. This, the Met Office says, could develop into heavy snow by around 6pm. The winds could pick up this evening, with 26mph gusts predicted from around 6pm to 9pm. Heavy snow is forecast through the night, due to subside at around 3am. Light snow is predicted to fall until around lunchtime on Wednesday. BBC Points West weatherman Ian Fergusson this morning urged those in the West Country to anticipate a further 2-5cm of snowfall, locally 10cm. This, the weatherman said, could accumulate from this evening to Wednesday morning. The areas more likely to see snow tonight, he said, are Bath & North East Somerset; East Somerset; Wiltshire (M4 corridor); Bristol; Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire. In these areas there is a risk of ice and possible disruption. There is an 80 per cent chance of precipitation - that is, sleet, rain or snow - tonight, the Met Office says. Temperatures overnight will fall to around 1C, but it could feel much colder - as low as -5C. Yellow weather warnings of ice remain in place until Wednesday afternoon. The skies will then be overcast, and it could feel as cold as -4C. Bath should also brace itself for a chilly Thursday - temperatures will range from zero to -2C, but could feel as low as -7C. UPDATE 11AM: A number of First Bus services in Bath have been affected by snow and ice. Click here for more details. UPDATE 11.40AM: The Met Office has upgraded the weather warning for snow in Bath to amber. The warning, which urges the public to "be prepared", has been issued from 3pm today until midday tomorrow. Some 10 cm of snow could fall amber warning areas, the Met Office says. This could be locally heavy and fall in a short period of time, perhaps just a few hours. The yellow warning of ice in Bath remains in place until lunchtime tomorrow. UPDATE 1PM: Around 12 hours of heavy snow is forecast in Bath tonight. Earlier today the Met Office predicted heavy snow would fall from around 6pm but subside at around 3am on Wednesday. However, its latest Bath forecast predicts heavy snow from 6pm until around 6am tomorrow. Light snow is forecast until Wednesday afternoon, at which point there may be a brief snow-free interval. It is, however, predicted to snow again for a few hours at around 6pm. There is tonight an 80 per cent chance of precipitation - that is, rain, sleet or snow - in Bath, the Met Office says. UPDATE 2.30PM: Snow is understood to have started falling in Combe Down, Bath. UPDATE 3.15PM: Darron Burness, the AA's Head of Special Operations, said the South West was this morning, "hit by a dangerous cocktail of rain, sleet and hail". He said: "The rain washed away some of the salt on the roads, so the hail then froze, creating treacherous sheet ice and causing a spate of accidents." Urging caution on the roads, Mr Burness said: "On snow and ice the key is to drive smoothly, avoiding hard acceleration, braking and steering movements. "Try to stay in the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin. If your car skids, only hit the brakes if you have anti-lock brakes. "If you don't have anti-lock brakes, try to regain control by lifting off the pedals and depressing the clutch to help the wheels regain traction. "It's easier said than done, so keep your speed down and try to keep plenty of space around you at all times. "If you're on a hill, try to avoid having to stop part way up by waiting till it's clear of other cars or by leaving plenty of room to the car in front. "Keep a constant speed and choose the most suitable gear well in advance to avoid having to change down on the hill. "Likewise, if you're going downhill, reduce your speed before the hill, use a low gear and try to avoid using the brakes. "Wherever you're travelling this week, stick to the gritted main roads where possible and keep tuned to local radio for the traffic and weather reports." UPDATE 3.55PM More heavy snow is forecast for Bath tomorrow morning. Earlier today the Met Office predicted some 12 hours of heavy snowfall, from around 6pm today until 6am tomorrow. However, according to the latest update there could be heavy snowfall from 3pm today until lunchtime tomorrow. The Met Office predicts this will subside by midday, turning into light snow. A foggy period is set to follow, before yet another flurry of light snow at around 6pm. A new yellow weather warning of ice has been issued for Bath on Thursday, between 3am and midday. Temperatures are set to linger around the -1C mark, but the Met Office warns it could feel as cold as -6C. UPDATE 4.55PM Yet more snow is forecast in Bath tomorrow. The Met Office predicts heavy snowfall until around 9am tomorrow, at which point it will most likely turn into light snow. But whereas previously the Met Office predicted the snow would ease off by midday and not return until around 6pm, light snow is now on the cards until 9pm. UPDATE 5.05PM Snow is reportedly settling on the Wellsway in Bath.
