Children's author Allan Ahlberg paid a special visit to St Saviour's Infant School in Larkhall on Friday.

Mr Ahlberg, famous for books such The Jolly Pocket Postman and the Funnybone series, visited to open the school's little free library.

Little free libraries first started in America and are big bookcases on wheels that can be moved from place to place so people can swap books.

The library will be parked outside the school each day, and in the future it will be pushed around Larkhall.

During this visit Mr Ahlberg read Each Peach Pear Plum to the children, he chatted to them about his writing and donated books to the free library.

Headteacher Ed Harker said: "We were delighted to welcome the wonderful children's author Allan Ahlberg into our school.

"It was a real treat to have the writer of classics like the Funnybones, The Jolly Postman and Peepo! sharing his time with us. The libraries are designed to make books as accessible as possible to children.

"One of our parents heard about the scheme and we thought it would be great to have one in our school, complementing our lovely big library, and helping to share our love of reading with the whole community."
