University of Bath student Kristian Callaghan collected Britain's first gold medal of the Australian Youth Olympic Festival yesterday.
Callaghan, who is a first year Mechanical Engineering student, stuck gold in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol shooting competition at the event in Sydney.
"It was brilliant when I found out that I was the first member of Team GB to win gold at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival," said Callaghan.
"That was only my second-ever rapid pistol final, so to go into a shootout was really tense. I couldn't be happier."
He returned to action in the 50m pistol this morning.
Twelve-year-old Tiola Gleeson, who trained at the University of Bath with coach Sarah Moon in the lead-up to the festival, was a member of the GB rhythmic gymnastics team which finished fifth yesterday.
It was a day that saw GB win ten medals – three golds, four silvers and three bronzes.
